3 Cultural Centres, 3 Tourist Trails and 3 Ancient Art Forms
1–9 December 2011 | Gallery, Spring House
Torange Khonsari, Senior Lecturer at London Metropolitan University and partner at public works presents a lecture and exhibition on her work designing 3 cultural centres for a folk art and culture project in the Indian state of West Bengal.
The project was led by Indian NGO Banglanatak.com, and aims to develop the unique folk art and culture based creative industry in a way that benefits poor and marginalised rural and tribal communities in West Bengal.
The talk and exhibition will introduce the 3 Cultural Centres; one centre for each district’s speciality. The events consider the position of architecture in socially driven projects and how buildings become part of the process of cultural and educational production.
