Capturing Urban Conflicts
3 November – 5 November 2011
Capturing Urban Conflicts offers a glimpse into the everyday life and built environment of cities that stand at the centre of some of the world’s most protracted conflicts. When people think about divided cities, walls or highly militarized buffer zones are the dominant features that come to mind. Through a series of maps, this exhibition seeks to challenge that notion by showing that a spectrum of different types of boundaries, frontiers, transitional spaces and mixed spaces exist within contested cities. A collection of photo-essays provides snapshots of everyday life in these urban centres, highlighting their resilience and in some cases their vibrancy.
The exhibition team is based in the University of Cambridge.
It includes: Lefkos Kyriacou, Nadera Karkaby, Britt Baillie and Wendy Pullan.
