Cottrell Vermeulen: School architects under attack
8–25 March 2011
In the current climate, the design of schools is seen as irrelevant or at best an expensive luxury. This is set against a 10 year investment in schools through the BSF programme.
We are about to complete 4 new school buildings. Each project aims to provide a learning environment appropriate for the individual school and designed through a collaborative process which reflects the context of each school. Whilst the approach to each school is consistent, the different cultural, physical and historical contexts have created specific and diverse architectural responses.
These projects demonstrate the value of design in educational buildings and a critique of the template methodology currently proposed.
