Grafton Architects: Works
11 – 27 March 2010 | ASD Gallery
‘In this exhibition we have concentrated on three cities: Dublin, Milan and Toulouse.
Dublin is our city, where we have grown as architects.
The historic city of Toulouse is the city where we have recently won a competition. Our proposal is to create a building with a type of intellectual infrastructure for a community of scholars at a point in the city where relationships are unique. In the completed Bocconi Unversity Building in Milan, with its large scale structure and public and private spaces, we value the University as one of the few truly public spaces in contemporary society.
In each city, we explore issues of grain, place, culture and language, reading the map and mapping the reading.
Listening to one city helps us to hear another.
Feeling the culture of one, helps us absorb another.
Walking in one helps us understand the scale of another.
Building in one helps us build in another.’
