Shelley McNamara and Yvonne Farrell of Grafton Architects

Yvonne Farrell and Shelley McNamara graduated from the School of Architecture in University College Dublin in 1974, where they have been teaching since 1976. They established Grafton Architects in 1978 and are founding members of Group ‘91 Architects who won the International Competition for the Regeneration of Temple Bar, Dublin. Co-directors Philippe O’Sullivan and Gerard Carty joined the practice in 1992 and 1993.

The work of Grafton Architect includes educational buildings at Trinity College and University College in Dublin and the University of Limerick; the Solstice Arts Centre, Navan, County of Meath; Government Department offices in Dublin; and numerous Department of Education & Science schools.

In 2008, Grafton Architects won the World Building of the Year Award for the Bocconi University Project in Milan and were one of the five Finalist for the Mies van der Rohe Award 2008. Yvonne Farrell and Shelley McNamara received RIBA International Fellowships in 2010. Both Yvonne and Shelley lecture and teach internationally and are visiting Professors at the Accademia di Architettura, Mendrisio and the Graduate School of Design, Harvard.
