Peter Lang of Stalker/ON, Nomad Observatory presents:
Campus Rom: Casalino 900, Rome

Stalker, founded in 1995, (the name is from the 1979 film Stalker by A. Tarkovskij) is a Rome based urban arts and architecture research collective that began by exploring and mapping the peripheral urban territories around Rome. In 2004 the collective became Stalker/ON, Nomad Observatory, and expanded its scope of work to include research, documentation, and development of local and international projects sponsored by government, non-government, museum and art institutions, and universities.

Stalker/ON proposes experimental strategies for intervention founded on exploratory spatial practices, using playful, convivial, and interactive tactics that relate to an environment, its inhabitants and their local culture. Peter will present the evolution of the collective and the context behind itʼs current operational strategies. He will take a closer look at one specific case that developed during the Campus Rom studies: the shanty town-camp Casilino 900, intended for the construction of
the first ʻlegalʼ house as a cooperative community project, which then became a contested site for political confrontation during a bitter mayoral election campaign.
