A series of lectures with presentations made by those who can offer an insight into the area of Aldgate and its urban and creative context, as well as the ongoing regeneration of the area.
Richard Houguez: Haircut before the Party
The Haircut Before The Party (THCBTP) is a collective of friends who formed strong relationships while living in squatted communal housing. In this environment, themes of power, property and collectivity are lived through and continually challenged. Through the salon, the collective are attempting to open up these themes and questions by providing a space in which to bring together wider groups of people.
Laura Oldfield Ford: Savage Messiah
Ford is based in London, having completed an MA in Painting at the Royal College of Art in 2007. She has exhibited profusely around the UK including two solo shows, “Bristol City Centre Poster Sites” of billboard posters at the Arnolfini in Bristol and “London 2013, Drifting through the ruins”, chronicling the impact of the Olympic development on the Lea Valley at the Hales Gallery in London. Her practice critiques the ever-changing nature of London and other cities. Her works are directly produced for the street, as well as the gallery. These take the form of both posters on billboards and a ‘zine’ she has produced for many years titled Savage Messiah. At the start of 2008 a collective emerged as a result of the ‘zine’ titled WE ARE BAD, whose activities revolve around creating interventions into specific significant locations.
