Rip it Up #5: The Troublemakers. Independent practice and its targets

Thursday 11 November 2010, 6:30pm, Forum

Part of Rip it up and start again, a series of 12 lectures curated and chaired by Kieran Long. With This Is Not A Gateway, Practice Architecture and the Cineroleum collective

A new generation of practitioners are taking matters into their own hands, making buildings without briefs, projects without clients and books without publishers. These entrepreneurs are not doing this in a vacuum, though, and this lecture will talk about the thinking they are developing behind the work. What claims can we make for these projects, temporary, low cost and home made as they are? What is their critique of contemporary practice? The final session of the ‘Rip it Up’ half of our lecture course will look at three sets of young practitioners making extraordinary independent work. They need your input to help forge the next generation’s manifesto.
